TREATMENTS FOR FACIAL LINES (BOTULINUM TOXIN (TYPE A), DERMAL FILLER INJECTIONS)

The structure of the skin changes with time and it becomes less elastic and flexible. Muscles in the face also begin to sag and the skin becomes creased and folded. Older skin is drier and it renews itself less quickly than younger skin. All these factors affect how facial skin looks and can result in frown lines and wrinkles which can make you look more tired, angry or older than you really are.

Many people wish to look and feel as good as possible for their age whilst maintaining a natural look. Injections of botulinum toxin may be recommended t following your consultation to help achieve this. The aim is to produce a natural relaxed look without the "frozen' appearance.

There are diferent types of products available and Mr Humzah Consultant Plastic Surgeon wil discuss this with you. The specific uses and possible outcomes will be discussed in detail during your consultation. In the UK there are 5 botulinum toxins available: Botox® , Azalure®, Letybo® , Evolus® and Bocoutoure®.

Other preparations such as dermal fillers are also available to manage facial lines and Mr Humzah Consultant Plastic Surgeon will discuss the various cosmetic treatments, dermal fillers skin peels and other procedures and their differences with you.

How is the treatment performed?

A minute quantity of botulinum is injected into the muscles that cause dynamic lines, for example frown lines. The botulinum  injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscle and, as a result, the muscle relaxes. As the muscles relaxes, the skin smoothes out. Treatment with botulinum can take as little as 10 minutes and most people return to normal activities immediately afterwards.

The smoothing effect of the first treatment with the injection usually lasts for up to 4 months.

Mr Humzah uses the world's thinnest needle (TSK Invisible Needle) to help reduce the pain of injection and the 3-Dose Unit Injector to achieve accurate dosage during the procedure. To make sure you get an accurate dose he may also use the specially designed 3-Dose Syringe.

He may also use an ultrasound to accurately identify the depth of your individual muscles and plan the treatment accurately.

The current regulations stipulate that there must be a "cooling off" period following the consultation for new patients. You will therefore not be able to have your treatment on the same day as your consultation if you are a new patient.

Treatment for Sweating / Migraine

Sweating affecting the underarms, hands or feet can be a major problem to 3% of people. This can now be controlled by using botulinum toxin. This will reduce the area of sweating and is effective for 4 – 6 months.

Botulinum toxin has also been recommended for Chronic Migraine (NICE Guideline)
